Sara Carter, a CrossFit Level 2 trainer and former collegiate women’s basketball coach. She heard about CrossFit in 2012 in Ruston, LA and immediately fell in love with it. With a history in competitive sports, she saw the immediate value that CrossFit brought to everyday life and health. She is a coach by nature and looks forward to coaching not only the elite athlete but also those looking to transform their minds and bodies in a positive way.  Sara is looking forward to sharing her passion with the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Melinda, a CrossFit Level 2 trainer joined the PortSide team in 2015.  Melinda is an excellent coach with attention to detail.  She is a teacher by day and CrossFit coach by afternoon.  Melinda has a way of pushing you so you can reach your goals. Melinda loved the community atmosphere of CrossFit and found that working out with a group of people was the most beneficial way to stay fit.

General Manager/ Nutrition Coach

Steven , a CrossFit Level 1 trainer, is a retired military officer and currently a Senior Army JROTC Instructor at Ocean Springs High School.  After years of doing the military “daily dozen” fitness program and a couple marathons, Steven found that CrossFit is the program that can provide a daily challenge and a sense of accomplishment every time you leave the box. CrossFit is a very scalable program to meet the fitness level of each individual so that everyone can participate and receive the life and health benefits.

Vernon is a husband, father, former couch potato, and a CF-L1 trainer.  Like many crossfitters he became an addict after the very first wod. He discovered crossfit online in 2011 and eventually tried it with a friend.  Then from excercise/fitness newbie on to level 1 trainer and now committed to helping those that feel the same way he did after discovering crossfit.  The feeling of this is what we’ve been missing. That Crossfit is more than excercise. Its community, education, playtime, progress & more all rolled into one.

Assistant Coach

Kristin came to CFPS in September of 2013. She loved not only the diversity of the workouts and the challenges each had, but the sense of competition that she was accustomed to from her past athletics. The Portside family is her second family and she loves the relationships, knowledge, and growth mentally, personally, and physically that she had made throughout the years. She became a CrossFit L1 Trainer in October of 2017 as a way to broaden her knowledge of the great sport of CrossFit and to assist others in achieving goals themselves. Personally, she is a Physical Therapist Assistant part-time and just recently took on a new career path as an Outside Sales Representative for RJ Young.

Assistant Coach/Mobility

Sheila is a CrossFit Level 1 certified coach.  She is from the island of Puerto Rico and learned to speak English while living in Germany.  Sheila has worked in fitness for a number of years and had previously attained certifications for Group Fitness and Personal Trainer, helping many people achieve their weight loss and fitness goals.  When she’s not spending time with her dog Piper, traveling the world, or managing Outdoor Recreation and the RV park on NCBC Gulfport, you will find her at CrossFit Portside, pushing you to your limits and raising the bar on what you thought you could do.

Assistant Coach
